Ares is the latest buzz in Internet Technology. It is a popular P-2-P file sharing tool capable of adding speed and excitement to your online entertainment and communication spree. Ares is better described as being a free, open source, downloadable and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing program that allows users to share their digital, audio and video files irrespective of whether they are software, documents, games or movies at a much faster pace than before. It provides an easy to use publication platform, chat room, personal channel hosting, radio station and serves as a great online meeting point. As a member of Ares, you can now search, download and upload almost anything with amazing speed.
Ares functions on its own decentralized super node network, better known as ‘Ares Galaxy’, which offers members with an easily accessible interface and built in audio / video viewer. The latest version of Ares supports BitTorrent protocol and Shoutcast radio stations. Ares initially operated on the Gnutella network, but soon switched to its own leaves-and-super-nodes network. This made its protocol difficult to identify and a unique P2P client that could work on such restricted networks was the need of the hour. ‘Ares Galaxy’ thus became the very first program for music file sharing but soon became difficult for the public to use. Therefore, when the program was made into a freeware, its users began making changes into it by editing its code in the hope of making it more user-friendly.
P2P file sharing occurs when two individuals use the internet file-sharing program to transfer files between each other. It is assumed that such file sharing programs may evoke copyright laws in cases where the contents protected by copyright law are shared. Some contradict this claim, like Professor Nesson who asserts that there is nothing wrong in sharing files with friends over the internet. It is, in fact, a Fair Use Law. Prof Nesson further strengthens his point by stating that file-copying isn’t entitled to any damages.
It is also seen that some artists use these freeware file sharing programs as free advertising tools. The Legalities involved in sharing software and games depends on the end-user disclaimer or agreement. Any intellectual property other than software is shared according to the requirements of the end user.
Ares brings all its members closer by offering them with free music downloads that can be shared on a one-on-one basis between online friends. Its instant messenger helps in boosting online friendships.
